Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the final moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
