This Supernatural Story
The acclaimed director pushes his film-making abilities in this nifty ghostly tale captured wholly through the eyes of the spirit. When a household featuring mother Rebekah and her distressed teen Chloe settles into their new suburban house, the lens – representing the ghost – shadows their actions. The daughter appears sensing the ghostly being, and it seems defensive toward her. But why? This is an entertaining concept that remains concise, with a twist that may be unexpected. This Creepy Thriller
Scott Derrickson's locked-room horror holds up well even without a follow-up. Taking place in 1978 Denver, a series of kidnappings has left the local kids on edge. But the disconnected phone mounted nearby repeatedly calls, with spooky callers giving advice, while the intuitive nightmares of Gwen, his sister may be his salvation. An effective horror. The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the conflict between faith and wealth, the victory is clear for materialism in Michael Showalter's delightfully tacky biopic of the disgraced religious broadcaster plus her lawbreaking partner. Andrew Garfield portrays the greedy Jim, who proclaims early on, “God does not want us to be poor,”. Both individuals commence capitalizing on the nation's religious faith. It's a spectacle of bad interior design, overdone appearance and hypocrisy, yet Chastain achieves to show Tammy Faye in a likable light. Next Tuesday, 1.15am, Film4
